Function name conflict

I have a PHP 3 script which declares a user-defined function called wordwrap. The script doesn't run in PHP 4 (no output appears when there should be) since PHP 4 now has an internal function called wordwrap.

What is the best way to resolve the conflict, besides renaming the user-defined function?

Unfortunately, you'll have to change the name of the function.

What you do here is get a program like HomeSite (comes with DreamWeaver UltraDev) or other application text editor such as WinEdit or NoteTab Pro.

These applications allow you to search and replace all occurances of "$string" throughout a file directory structure.
So you could do an extended find an replace for all occurances of the expression wordwrap and point the program to the local directory that contains all the source files of the target codebase and viola, the function name and all references to that function will be changed and saved.

If you are still opposed to this, then your only other option is to downgrade to PHP 3.

You assume the person has a commandline interface and would understand a word of that. Yeah, for you piping commands to sed works but, I try to work with the assumption that we're dealing with a bunch of newbies on cheap FTP hosts unless they specify they have something more.

And from the level of reluctance he had to do something as simple as a function name swap, I highly doubt your solution would be real for him at all.
