What is the alterntive to |

Hi,

When calling a script from the browser smetimes u may need to define a variable in the URL.. for example http://bleh.isuck.bit/bot?nick=something

Well, I know that | is an invalid character ina URL.. so can somebody lpease tell me wat the alternative to it is (like %20 is the alternative for space). Any help would be VERY appreciated.
