What commands can I use to end a session after a certain period of time and when the user closes the window?

This has bugged me for ages!

Those are already handled for you by PHP's session functions.

Yeah, but what are they and what would a timed session command look like? Can I use session.cache_expire?

Ya, go through your usr/local/php.ini file and set the session vars to what you need,
GC_maxlifetime will probably be your best method of controlling the session life
and you can tweak things like the max_probability which controls the GC selection of sessions to destroy.

Be sure to restart Apache after you save your changes.
