Complex?

I can't seem to get the right loop structure setup to get what I need

I have 3 tables. I need to update products.relDescriptionId with the value of descriptions.descriptionId where descriptions.description = productstmp.text and products.name = productstmp.name

How can I go about this?

If the products.relDescriptionId is an array you can do it like this:

for ($a=0; $a<$ArraySize; a++) {
if (descriptions[a].description==productstmp[a].text && products[a].name==productstmp[a].name) {
products[a].relDescriptionId = descriptions[a].descriptionId
}
}

Forgot a couple syntax problems:

for ($a=0; $a<$ArraySize; $a++) {
if (descriptions[a].description==productstmp[a].text && products[a].name==productstmp[a].name) {
products[a].relDescriptionId = descriptions[a].descriptionId;
}
}

They're all mysql tables so that won't work unfortunately.

Not complex really...

Just use an update if your talking MySQL tables as per you below post...

UPDATE table_name SET field='$value', field2='$value2' WHERE something='$var'

Not entirely sure whats going on though as I have no idea what of the above it a table and whats a field...

Ok I'll try to explain it a bit better...

I have 3 tables:
products
productstmp
descriptions

(for arguments sake)
products has 2 fields:
name
relDescriptionId

descriptions has 2 fields:
descriptionId
description

productstmp has 2 fields:
name
description

The list of names in productstmp and products is the same, as is the list of descriptions in productstmp and descriptions, however they are both in a different order than eachother.

I need to get the descriptionId from the descriptions table and associate it with the correct name in products, using productstmp as the guide.

Well, after taking my head out of the place where the sun don't shine I figured it out and its increadibly simple of course...

$res = mysql_query ("SELECT name,descriptionId FROM productstmp,descriptions WHERE productstmp.text=descriptions.description");

if($col_name == "name"){
$name = $col_value;
} elseif($col_name == "descriptionId"){
$desc = $col_value;
