remote mysql question

ok im trying to connect to a remote host i tried it like mysql_connect('host',...) but that didn't owrk wouldnt let me connect so i need to know how i enable it in mysql and how i cretae new users with mysql do i just ad them to mysql'sdb/users or do i do something else all help is appreciated and tahnx alot everyone

By "i tried it like mysql_connect('host',...)" were you refering to "mysql_connect('remote_ip',...)"? If not, you might want to try putting the remote machine's ip in place of my "remote_ip".

I apologize if that is what you meant and have already tried this.

Have you set the MySQL permissions to be able to accept connections from any host? Contact your database administrator about this.

well see thats the thing its my server an i dont know much ab out this subject i need to know hwo to set the permissions but ive tried to connect to it without selecting a db and still get a error

How do you know the permissions are set right if you can't connect?

because i was able to connect from my own computer using the host:127.0.0.1(my real ip)...let me refrase "i think i have them set right" hehe :-)

Then you don't have the permissions set right. In MySQL you can set permissions on hosts also, meaning from where you login. By default, MySQL only allows logins from localhost and nowhere else. So head over to the mysql site and check out the documentation on the GRANT statement.
