$value in setcookie()

What i want to do is when people login a new page opens that checks weither the pass and username match those in the database... If so a cookie should be created that posts that password and username on the client. What I need is: ('username', '$username', 'password', '$password')...

But what's posted in the cookie is just $username in stead of the value that consists the username like MARK...

To set cookie
setcookie("username", "Mark");

Var $username then has value Mark

Use double quotes:

setcookie('username', "$username");
