Hi, could someone please tell me whether i need the GD library to resize my images during upload (imageResize, imageCreateFromJpeg require GD??) of if there is a better way? Thanks

Yeah, the GD library is pretty much going to be your best bet, unless you plan on writing your own library to do the same functions.
