writing to a file in user directory.

hello there,
I am Gautam Thakur, i am a student and developing email application for my university.I have question regarding PHP programming.I hope you help me. Well I am using php on RH linux 7.2. My question is : How can I create a file in other user account directory and read and write to that file when ever I need.Eg: My computer system has a user gst whose directory is /home/gst. Now how can I create a ".mailboxlist" file and write & read to this file in that directory using PHP programming Apache server. And say this file contains the name of the folders exists in user mailing account.when he/she logged in i can read that file see how may folder this user is having and then disply the appropriate contents of it.waiting for your response.Bye and cheers.

If I understand you:

PHP is running by the apache user (mostly www-data or something) if you give that user read/write access to that folder. it's should work.

It should work, but it is VERY dangerous.

Doing this means you give read/write access not just to the mail script, but to any php script on the server, including scripts written by other students. One typo/one bad student and your server is in big trouble.

Don't do this.
