populating a variable from MySQL

Hi,

I have been bashing my head against a wall for some time now trying to figure this out for the past few days and have had NO luck in figuing it out, if someone with PHP/MySQL knowledge can look it over and tell me why it does not return the users name from the database, and the entered account number (ID) from the form I would much appreciate it!

What error are you getting? Parse error? It may be because of this:

$num = mysql_numrows ($acc_name);

it should be:

$num = mysql_num_rows ($acc_name);
http://www.php.net/manual/en/function.mysql-num-rows.php

I get no parse error and when i check for the number or rows returned it says 1 (when i say echo $num) which is what i expect and want it to do, but it does not echo the value of $acc_id which the user typed into the form nor does it echo the name that matches the acc_id in the database

here is what i get as a result even with the changes you said to make...

1 Welcome back Resource id #2

Breakdown:-
1 = the number of rows returned

Welcome back = is just some text i echo back

Resource id #2 = not a clue where this is comming from, it is the value stored in the $name value though.

Try:

$result = mysql_query ($q) or die (\"Could not retrive any matching records!\");

$row = mysql_fetch_assoc($result);
$acc_name = $row['name'];

print 'Welcome back ' . $acc_name;
