can i only replace the first match word??

like:
$t = "<table><tr><td>hello...</td><td>...bye.</td></tr><table>"

and i want to replace only the first <td> tag.

result:
$new_t = "<table><tr><td width=15>hello...</td><td>...bye.</td></tr><table>"

can i do that??

You could do:

$t = "<td>hello";

$t = str_replace("<td>hello", "<td width=50>hello", $t);

Or
$new_t= preg_replace("/(<td>)(.*$)/","<td width=15>\2", $t);
