Date listing probs

Hi,
I have a news database with dates inputed like : 26 March 2002, I added a article dated 1 April 2002 and it was listed at the bottom of my news table rather at the top as it should be, every other news article in march was listed with newest first.

Can someone tell me how to fix this?

Are you using a DATE field to store the date? or just a text field?

I'm using date field as text as date always seems to come out as 0000-00-00!
