Development in Windows environment....

Hi,

I am developing one "e-"application using PHP4, Apache, MySQL under Windows98 Operating System. Once I complete my development I would like to transfer all my scripts to Linux Operating System.

My question is what kind of care that I need to take during design & development (keeping Linux transfermation in mind). If I transfer all my scripts to Linux OS, will it work without any changes. Of course, I will use Apache and MySQL there too.

I need your expert advice on this. I appreciate your comments and suggestions.

As long as you avoid "Windows only" PHP functions like w32api* and others your scripts should transfer perfectly. Your only real work in transferring your stuff will be the MySQL databases. You can't just copy the database files, you'll need to use a utility to transfer to the new DB.

P.S. FreeBSD is better 😉

Since I will be having only my test data in the database, I may not need to transfer any database files. Infact, I am planning to write utitlies to create the database and all necessary tables on fly. Of course, this tool can be run only once otherwise it will remove all existing data.
