Masking input fields

Hey guys. I've seen things like this posted before, and I've even read about it in books, but I still don't fully understand it. I don't understand hardly any of it... 🙂

I have some text input fields that need to be masked. One is a zip (5 or 9 digit) and one is letters & whitespace only. Can someone post something on how to do these? I've seen others that I think are similar, but I'm not sure of what they masking themselves so don't know what it does, if that makes sense.. 🙂 Also, is it possible to accept uppercase only? Thanks in advance!!!

<input type="hidden"> is the only way i can think of to attempt to hide variables and values from a user.

For the uppercase, why not in the action script do a $var = strtoupper($var);

hmm if I read your question right you want your fields to be formated as the user inputs info.

So if I type in 973A21 into the zip field you want it to show as 97321 not excepting the A. or if I type 9732155466 you want it to disply as 97321-5546 adding the dash and truncating hte last didgit.
While you could do this to the fields in what ever script is called by submit, with php you cna't do it on the page as php is server side. Java script I believe is what you'll need.
