Trimming strings

I'm trying to cut several strings down to just the first three characters, i.e. $string=firstthreechsrs($string), but cannot find a way of doing it.

There must be a simple way of doing this, but the manuals have turned nothing up.

Any ideas out there?

Check out the manual on substr()

$string = substr($string, 0, 3);

[Anon]

Easy, use substr(string,start,end);

$string = "Hello";
$string = substr("$string",0,2);
print($string); // outputs "He"
