Capturing News from other sites

hi,

i am planning to retrive the news headlines from one or more sites and display it in one page.

For this i wanna use php scripting alone, so that when the news is updated in the sites, it will appear in current page with out distraction.

For this i dont want to use the database.
as it is resource consuming.

if i click on any of the news headlines it has to be display the details in a pop up window, which it belongs to the respective site

can any one suggest me the better plan of action execute this task.

First things first. Do those sites that you wish to capture news from create or publish .rdf or .xml files or something like that?
