login into password protected area

is there a way to login into password protected
area using php code without exposing password
(Apache, .htaccess, PHP4.0)

I guess what I mean to do is something like
header(
"location:http://user:[e-mail]/data/")
but without exposing "http://user:pass" part
after login.
