Function for each line in a string

I'll explain this as well as I can. I have a string with items seperated by "returns" \n's .. and I want to do a function for each item. Let's say print it. To have some sort of repeat and to get the current line in a variable, do the function, and have the variable change, do the function, etc.

Try something like this:

$lines = "a\nb\nc\nd\ne";

$lines_arr = explode("\n", $lines);

foreach ($lines_arr as $line) {
print '[' . $line . ']';
}
