ampersand in URL

I have had trouble getting true info about this.

If I have a link, and the URL has an ampersand, should I use & or &?

I know that & is probably proper, but I here that it does not work with Lynx?

But if I have the link in double quotes, and just use &, will I ever have a problem?

Where in the URL? In the query string to separate variable/value pairs? Sure, use &. If you mean in the data then you should be putting urlencode() around your variables before echoing them there.

If you mean at the command line, you want to quote the whole URL

lynx "http://www.phpbuilder.com/forum/read.php3?num=2&id=185664&thread=185657"

I mean in an HTML link, to separate the variables passed to the server. So I should use a regular ampersand, or use the HTML code for ampersand?

Oh, & is proper for a variable=value pair separator. Reason being that a lot of browsers choke when the variable looks like the name of an HTML escape.
