I have been having trouble with my ISP with regards to MySQL being in place.
I have an "or Die" flag added to my connection to MySQL that will put up the error message "Database is Down", but it still kicks up an error.
On my site, I have a "latest news" section that is dynamically populated from MySQL database. I have an admin tool I use to put in the news items, and then they get displayed on my homepage.
When the db is down (as it is now) it just kicks up the error message and stops. I would like to wrap the news portion in some kind of a try/catch kind of thing that if it can't find the db, it puts up a nicely formatted "database currently down" error.
My site is www.orbandesign.com if you'd like to look.
Thanks for any help or pointers to the right direction. Sorry for such a beginner question.
