I am having a bit of a spat with my hosting service. They say its me and I say its them sort of thing.
The problem is the every now and again about a third of my page requests show up a bogus value in global $HTTP_REFERER.
For example:
Most of my hits to the home page come from a single site with a link of www.mysite.com?source=friend.
This shows up fine most of the time. Sometimes, though the same link results in a $HTTP_REFERER value of www.myhost.com:2086/scripts/command.
When this does happen it is usually for a day or so and can affect up to 40% of requests. Anyone got any idea what is happening here? Can you give me some knowledgeable ammo to get the hosts to sort it out?
It don't half screw up my referal stats.
Incidentally, the server log files show requests as they should be.
Thanks for any help.
Cheers,
Cris
