getting URL from string...

I have built a very cool little forum, the only thing I am having a hard time with is getting any urls from the body and putting a hyperlink around it.

I have tried explode(" ",$body); but not all have a space before it, some only have a \n before it...I am confused, I am sure somehas has this little code snippet in there bag o' tricks, can anyone enlighten me? Please?

use regular expressions

$string = preg_replace("/(http:\/\/+.[^\s]+)/i",'<a href="\1" target="new">\1</a>', $string);

Why do I always forget about the miracle of regular expressions? That worked perfect!

Now, let me ask you one thing, regular expressions I know, not well, but I know they exist and have used them, BUT, what if someone adds a URL without the http:// and just has the www. how can I parse for both, but, if it has http:// and www. it does not link it twice? How can I parse the string for http:// and www. but not not see both in the same string...

Does that make sense?! I think I just confused myself...

Try something like this.

$string1 = preg_replace("/((http:\/\/|http:\/\/www|www)+.[^\s]+)/i",'<a href="\1" target="new">\1</a>', $string1);

That should link all instances of http:// or http://www or just www.
