file downloading

I have a script that outputs files in a certain folder to the screen. I would like the user to have the ability to just click on the link and download the file. How is this possible when normally a clicked file will try to open in the web browser.

Just use the header:
header( "Content-Disposition: attachment; filename=" . $file );
