replace occurance of word in forum ....

I would like to be able to replace the occurance of certain words in a forum based system (yabbse - all php/mysql) with a predefined string (URL).

For instance, if someone enters the word "camera" in the normal text of a post, I want the word "camera" to be hyperlinked to a certain URL- and have the word illness still appear (just hyperlinked).

Any ideas? A friend told me to come here for help - but I'm feeling a little overwhelmed by the vast amounts of knowledge circulating here.

something along these lines should do it

$message = str_replace("camera", "<a href='http:\www.yourlink.com>illness</a>", $message);

idle curiosity, would there be an easy way to make that case-insensitive? so camera or Camera would both be linked without writing two reg expressions?

yes there is...
this is the strstr() function from the PHP Manual

stristr -- Case-insensitive strstr()
Description
string stristr ( string haystack, string needle)
Returns all of haystack from the first occurrence of needle to the end. needle and haystack are examined in a case-insensitive manner.

If needle is not found, returns FALSE.

If needle is not a string, it is converted to an integer and applied as the ordinal value of a character.
