jump to root directory

First I want to jump to the root directory in order to start afterwards every navigation.
Can you please tell me, which instruction I need? Is ist "../" or is it "./", or whatever?!? I don't know!!! I'm working with an UNIX-station!

its just /

./ is the current dir so if you in
/home/jimbo/ its the same thing

../ is the previous dir so if your in
/home/jimbo is refers to /home

Hi Phil! Thanx for your answer!
But there's still a problem. If I use the "/" in php4, it doesen't lead me to the root directory!
I try the following code:

<?PHP
include("/include/xyz.inc");
?>

Normaly this code should lead me to the file:

root/include/xyz.inc

But in fact this file is never found!!!
So what am I to do now? It seems as if the "/" works with html but not with php! Do you have another solution for me?!? Would be great!!!
