calculate right height and width

Hallo!

I´m struggling with finding the right number for the size of the height and width that i would resize using imagemagick..

Basically i´m using

mogrify -geometry 120x90 filename.jpg

But they aren´t all in same shape and if someone would upload an image that was like 400x400 and would be resized to 120x90 the image would stretch out and i don´t want that...

So i´m dealing with to find the correct thumbnail size of the uploaded image and i just have one clue..

That is although they don´t resize all with 120x90 shape.... or what i call landscape the closed height would be 90 and i was thinking of using that to like calculate the height of the big image height and the closed height(90) to find you what the width would be resized to so they would all end up being just the same shape as they were before they were resized ..

Can someone help me?

don't know about image majik, but you'll need to do your calculations as a percent and then translate to absolute coordinates.

say an image of 400x460 needed to be scaled to fit inside an area of 100x100 ...
Just calculate the percentage of each dimensions difference and then find your absolute size. That will allow you to scale while keeping the correct dimensions ratio.

Sorry, not in the mood to do math tonight, so you'll have to break out the ol slide rule.

If I understand correctly, you don't know how to get the image's size? Then use getimagesize()
