pdf files to open

HI all,
need to open some 11000 existing pdf files and write their contents into an mySQL database, pdflib doesn't support opening files for free so I try to look for alternatives,

you can read them with an fopen()->fread()->fclose()
and store them as a string with an addslashes().

THx for the answer, tryied out, U can read the whole file, but I need to make some string-operations with the content of the pdf, if you know how to do, tell mee!!!!
