i've got a table with sales data, what i want to do is to list the name of the saler and the sum of each product he sells, like this

Saler's Name | Product 1 | Product 2|total
Paul | 5 | 3 | 8
Erika | 7 | 2 | 9

any idea?

Can you be a little more specific please?

I understood the information as follows.

sellers name, product as your field names..

would be something like

$sql = "SELECT sum(product) as total, sellers_name FROM yourtable";

I think that is what you are loooking for but please correct me if I am wrong.

$sql = "SELECT sum(product) as total, sellers_name FROM yourtable GROUP BY sellers_name";
