open_basedir restriction

Does anyone have a php file upload snippet that actually works?
I've tried 3 different ones from php sites and they all fail - don't know if it's something to do with the way our hosts have installed php or what.

This is what I'm getting:-
"Warning: open_basedir restriction in effect. "

Does anyone know what this means?

A script that works for YOU, will help me sort this out, so please..... sob sob ... this is driving me c.r a!zY

Just a thought. Itmight be due to a combination of two things:

PHP uploads files into a temporary directory which defaults to the system's temporary directory if not set specifically in php.ini
You can impose a user by user directory restriction (basedir) in php.ini as well.

These two probably don't match and hence the basedir restriction.

Run a page with PHP info on your service provider and see what comes back.
