I have a smal and simple mailscript.
Now I get a fatal error which tels me that maximum execution of time is exceeded.

How do I get around that???

It telle me that there migt be something wrong with this line:
mail($abonnent, $nyhedstitel, $nyhedsindhold, "From: [e-mail]\r\n Reply-to: [e-mail]");

It has been working without problems for some months until now.

Sounds more like your mail server is having problems - if nothing's changed with your web server or configuration. It shouldn't take 30 seconds for a properly functioning sendmail or whatever is installed to handle a simple mail request.

But what if there is about 300 subscribers I'm sending a newsletter to?

Would that make a difference.

I didn't mention that but it is a newsletter function I ahve.

Oof; that could do it!

There are PHP packages around at places like www.zend.com (and I think PEAR) that will allow more direct access to your SMTP server than the mail() function provides: one of them might be more suitable.

In the meantime, you may want to adjust the timeout on your script with set_time_limit() - say, a couple of seconds before each mail() call. That will ensure that each call to mail() will get at least that many seconds to complete.
