Unlocking Access database

I'm having a problem with Access not allowing me to use an UPDATE string.
Comes back with this:

Source: ADODB.Field Description: Current Recordset does not support updating. This may be a limitation of the provider, or of the selected locktype.

Can the locktype be changed?

Yeah, I think I can notice that. I'm trying to create a DSNless connection for a website. So far I can only get Read Only access. I need to know how to unlock the db so I can update files (IN PHP).
