Please Help, Fancy Stuff needed

I am wondering whether anyone can help me. i am using PHP with MySQL tro do a website for someone. I have run into a bit of a snag. I am calling two array's from the database. The first array is a group of grades(it is a sporting site), about 10 of them, the next is the teams for the entire competition (about 100 of them). They each have ID's that relate to the competion and the grade that they are in. For example a team with the ID 123465789 will mean that 123 is the competion ID, 456 is the grade ID and 789 is the Team ID.

Now the question is when i select a grade, i only want the teams in that to be displayed, without having to go back to the server and ask for the items (ie i need a client side technique). Is there anything in PHP that lets us do that, otherwise what do you recommend touse(one of my mates said javascript), if so can you please give me an example of how to use it to accomplish this.

Probably a Java applet will be better than JavaScript...
You can pass it all the teams by using the <param> tag outputted by a PHP script...

It's just better. JavaScript was designed to do simple tasks - mouse rollovers, DHTML, etc. Java is designed to do more complex stuff - heck, you can even make a complete program with Java.

It can do both.

How does the <param> tag work that you are talking about???

You can do:
<param name="team1" value="789">
or whatever. So PHP can do:
while ($row = mysql_fetch_assoc()) {
print ...; // print param tag here
}
and the Java applet will be able to pick it up.
