How to create html pages "on the fly"???

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for a system like those everyone see on complex forums. Basically, you have the option to select if you want your text to be bold, underlined, centered... To insert an image, an URL...

I don't know if it's possible to do it only with php or if javascript or vbscript is needed. Actually, I need it so quickly that I hoped something was already existing but I didn't find anything.

So basicallym what I'm looking for is a form with buttons

[Justify][add Image][add URL]etc... and a submit button that allows to handle all this information and create an html regarding to all the options selected...

its php

when you submit this form, its sent to something that replaces each of those with its appropriate html counterpart.
i.e.---
$string = 'This is bold';

$string = str_replace('', '<b>', $string);

this is probably done with preg_replace with an array of all the different tags that need to be switched

Stole this right out of the manual:

I guess an example might be more helpful ;-)

In your case do the following:

$search = array ("'[b]'i",
"'[\/b]'i",
and so on...
);

$replace = array ("<b>",
"</b>",
and so on...
);

$text = preg_replace ($search, $replace, $formelement);

But that's probably because I'm a PHP newbie but I cannot see the point of using a preg_replace in addition to what Max told me first.

If I use this:

$string = 'This is bold';

$string = str_replace('', '', $string);

isn't it enough???

Don't forget to replace [/b] also!

preg_replace is used if you need to search more complex expressions. For now, use str_replace, in the future, you might need preg_replace.

yea. thats a good example. it strips out all html.

the thing about preg_replace is that you can have it search for both and along with and and all sorts of things in one line. for example

$string = preg_replace("[(.*)[b|B]]", "<\1b>", $string);

I think str_replace will be necessary enough for me but it's good to have explanations of what preg_replace does and maybe I'll need that as well.
