preg_match or preg_replace?

I am bringing a tutorial through htmlentities() and i need a way to make active links.

i need to find anything that starts with "http://" and ends with a space. i.e. http://something.com

then i need to replace the "http://something.com" with "<a href=http://something.com>http://something.com</a>"

please help me .. links might appear multiple times in the same thread.

actually.. some of the content is code.. so it's probably better that i look for anything with :

how can i find this in a string.. and replace it with an html link?
