variables missing after pressing Submit

Hi,
i followed the php tutorial from the ground up from www.webmonkey.com

i tried to make html forms with a submit button that links it to php file and display the contents of the forms field.

however the page turns out to be blank!

I'm using Apache 2, and php 4 on windows 2000

if you are using PHP 4.2.0 then the form's field names are not global variables anymore.

e.g. <input name="userid" type="text">

is not caught in PHP with $userid anymore. it is going to be now $HTTP_POST_VARS['userid'] or $HTTP_GET_VARS['userid'] .. depending on your method of form submittion.

better still, use $POST['userid] or $GET['userid']. These are always available for use in PHP4.2 (unlike $HTTP*VARS), and they look better, too.
