Warning: Undefined variable...

Hello!

My online host has the error reporting set to all errors (including user notices, etc).

Therefore I keep getting errors like this:

Warning: Undefined variable: beenSubmitted in contactus.php on line 239

I know why they are happening but the host won't change their php.ini file!

How do I 'initialise' a variable to stop this?

For example in VB one would use the DIM statement, or in java: integer myInteger;

From the name of the variable, I take it comes from a form. Therefore, you can't initialize the variable otherwise it'll overwrite the form value. So what you do is call isset() before using the variable:

if (isset($beenSubmitted) && ($beenSubmitted == true) {

// then do something
}
