capture form data with php and mysql

Brand spankin new to this PHP and mysql stuff. I have been thrown into a job that requires me to capture form data (contest enrty info) and store it in a mysql database. Anyone know of any tutorials that would get me moving in the right direct. Although I know I need to learn php from the ground up and I will but I am looking for something that canshow a common php script that takes the form field contents that is passed to the php script and dumps it in a mysql db. Help! Thanks in advance for any assistance, It is greatly appreciated.

Kevin Yank does a good job, I havent' bought his book but the first five chapters are online.
