Preg_match function

Dear All,
In my work I have to check for the validity of a datetime field which is in the form of "2002-05-02 10:00:00". For this I am using a function like this:

(preg_match('/^{[-:0-9]*$/',$appt_date_time)}

It is validiating if I don't keep space between date and time(i.e., 2002-05-0210:00:00). So how to check it if there is space between date and time? Can anybody kindly suggest a way to me?

in perl you can just add a space in between the square brackets ie '/^[-:0-9 ]*$/'
try this it might work in php?
