Registration Key Code

Is there anyway to protect a program with a registration key code? So that without the keycode, the program will not work?

I have designed a fully automated hosting registration and setup program designed for a UNIX system and would like to protect it from illegal use.

Any information would be helpful.

Funny thing about PHP scripts: They are easy to understand, and always "open source". You could spend days writing the most sophisticated registration system imaginable and it would take a mediocre PHP programmer about 60 seconds to remove it.
