Hello,

How do i get the first word(first name) and email from the following line?

I have....
$fname=ereg('^$',$line);
$email=ereg('^@.$',$line);
but those are incorrect

Steve Yates General Manager [e-mail] Personnel Inc. 11580 sCentral Ave., Suite 110 Chino CA 91710 909-618-5555 50-99 Other Business Services

(the above is all on one line)

what would the correct ereg statements be?

Use preg_match!

preg_match('/\b\w+@\w+.\w+\b/',$text,$match);

preg_match('/\b[a-zA-Z.]+@\w+.\w+\b/',$text,$match);

Better use this if you want also to find [e-mail]

preg_match seems to be returning a number $email=preg_match('/\b\w+@\w+.\w+\b/',$line);
returns
Email is 1

How do i get it to return an email address instead of a 1?

its stored in the match array

For [e-mail]:

preg_match('/\b[a-zA-Z.]+@\w+.[a-zA-Z.]+\b/',$text,$match);
