session register function

Hi,

I'm new to PHP, I've learnt that there is a function "session register" function which is same as ASP "session" function.

I know how to use ASP "session" function, but not PHP.. can anyone tell me how to use "session register" function? Do I need to use "session start" as well? and some FAQ said can't use along with "header" function, Is it correct?

Please advise, many thx.

To register a variable you need to use session_register("VariableName") and to have it active you need session_start() at the top of everypage that uses it. Sessions should be registered/started before any headers.

For full details, see the section on session handling functions in the manual. But briefly:

If you're using PHP4.1 or later it's P.o.P to use sessions. If you use something like $_SESSION['var'] its contents are sessioned. That straightforward. Well, pretty much. I'm making certain assumptions about your PHP's configuration as well as version - PHP4.1+, register_globals turned off - but that's the ideal situation to have anyway.
