Redirect question

Hi Guys,
How do you do the following.
In many forums (like this one) when a post/thread/reply is submitted the data is inserted into the database and the user is told that the post was successful. What i want to know is how do they redirect back to the to the forum board, it seems to wait a few seconds then automatically redirect.
Can anyone expalin the process inorder to achieve this?

you can either use javascripts timeOut function or most use a meta tag as follows...
<META HTTP-EQUIV="refresh" CONTENT="n; URL=your.url.com">
where n is time in seconds.
