file editing from web

hi all,

i want to open/edit the file that is owned by the user/group root in my linux box.reading is no problem but writing is the issue.how can i acheive this without changing the file's permissons and groups.

Not sure if this is possible. I did a similar thing a while ago with Coldfusion and managed to beat user writes: what I did was wright the file to a directory you have access to and then copy the file across using a php function. Not sure if it will work.
