Insert jpg into DB

I'm trying to figure out how to insert a picture file. Like a jpg for instance. Into a database. Then query the DB and take it out and display it on a page. I've got a book here that says it can be done but I've tried searching sites (of course the offcial ones aren't any help) and I can't come up with anything. Anyone know of a place that's got a good tutorial?

You don't insert a jpg in to a database, what you do is create a field which references the location of the picture.

To do this create a text field named picture in your table.

On your web server create a directory called pictures.

Then in your table reference it http://www.yourdomain.com/picture/picturename.gif

Alright I guess that means I'm gonna have to figure out how to get it to write the jpg to a direct by having the person upload it in a form then delete it when they want to.
