execute a script before launching site

Hi,

I need to execute a script when my site is launched. I have a php script that sets referrer as a seesion variable. When some one launches http://www.mysite.com I need to execute my referrer script before index.html is displayed. Is it possible ?

Is my question clear ?

Why not do it in the same script ? You can use the referer variable as a local value untill the session variable has been assigned. Just name your file index.php.

If I name the file as index.php then the search engine on my site does not index it.

Our site has 100 html pages and I will lose the referrer if somebody moves around as it is not possible for me to post it to every page.

If I set it as session variable then I can access it later when user is ready to register even if he/she has moved around a lot.

how about tell your php.exe also run the .html files? treate your .html as .php too.

php.exe exists when php is compiled as cgi but my php is compiled as apache module.

You could do it in two places:

httpd.conf, you have access to this file. you could add .html to be parsed as php scripts.
.htaccess in your web root, add this line:

AddType application/x-httpd-php .html

One more question before I sign off. Will I be able to add php code on html pages as I do on other php pages after I add this option in httpd.conf?

YES, all that extra line does is it has php parse's the files with the extention .whatever before it displays it. remember you can like tie html with php code ie

If I add an option to parse html as php then all my html files(around 100) will be parsed as php resulting in needless server overhead.

And if I add .shtml or some other extension as parsable and make my index.html as index.shtml then will it be indexed by the search engine ?
