comparing strings with "br"

Hi,
i want to compare 2 strings. I am basically reading a webpage and i want to see if there is anything like "TODAYSDATE<BR>" in the webpage, where TODAYSDATE is replaced by the system date.

I tried using htmlspecialchars, htmlentities..to compare but strcmp is not working properly.

Can anybody tell me how to compare it??
