Php echo problem

Hi,

i'm working on an online emailing system and i have a problem. As a step through each record (subscriber) from the database, i send this subscriber an email. But i want to see if the server is really bussy. I've tested it with 50 emails and it took about half a minute. But what if sending a few thousand emails... I want to see some kind of feedback from server. The problem here is that (you probably have heard) when u echo output it gets cached and then at the end or when a certain number of bytes is reached the echo gets submitted... I tried to flush() the output but i'm using apache server and with this server flushing is useless. What can I do.. I hope u understand my problem and can help me...

I understand the prolem because I have had the same problem. I overcome this by making the program email 50 at a time. it then called itself with an offset field set which tells the program how far down the file to go. It also solved the problem of the program timing out. (set_time_limit for some reason diden't work).

why not try for?

for ($email = 1; $email <= 15000; $email++) {
send_email() ;
}

if something like that would work..
(dont quote me on that)
but in theory u could send X emails in one go, i.e. at a time...
so u could test sending 50 emails in one fraction of however long it takes to execute...

Thanx for the tip,

I thought that would do the thing but i can't get it to work... I reload my page after 10 mails, echo for every 10 mails "**********", pass an offset so after reloading sending mails is going further but still, the output is given at the end...
I'm not using echo but send a variable to html.

But still thanx, i think this is going to work.... (after a few days of searching trying and sweating) 🙂
