How do I send a file from my computer to a server with command prompt sftp (putty)

I can open the server no problem, however I do not know how to transfer the file from my machine to the server?

put <file>

so, in command prompt you say:

ftp>open server
ftp>put index.html

you can also include the path:
ftp>put c:\index.html
