Math problem

Hello

I need help with what appears to be a simple math problem.

$x=13.5;
$y=13.10;

if ($x>$y){
echo "NOT expected end point";
} else {
echo "expected end point";
}

Why does it end up being "NOT expected end point"? It appears only one decimal place is being used?

I could be wrong but is there realy a problem here? 13.5 is greater than 13.10 so ofcourse the result is "NOT expected end point"..

Yes, I am thinking that 13.10 is greater than 13.5. I.e. "10" is greater than "5".I do see your point though, in maths, 13.5 is of course greater :-)

What I'm trying to do is to compare times, i.e. 13.10 is 1.10pm and 13.5 is 1.05pm. So I'm trying to see whether the current time is greater than an expired time i hold in a variable.

So it's not a 'Math problem' but a time problem 😉
How did the variables get into this state, can't you take them as a timestamp? If you can't get the variables as time then you will have a major task to get this working.

I was hoping there may be an easier way of doing it than having to split the time into hours and minutes and then do a compare.

Yes it is indeed not a math problem :-)

I got the time by using the getdate() function, and then extracting the appropriate part of the array for the hours and minutes.

I don't think I can use the timestamp method for what I am doing, so maybe the only way is to check the hours and minutes seperately.

convert your times to timestamps and then do the math. Use the time() function instead of getdate() function and then your if statement will work as you expected. You can always use the date() function to make your timestamps look pretty.
