select text between 2 characters

Hi,

I need to fill a variable, say $var, with a pice of a strig. The piece must be between 2 characters, lets say "~" and "\r". I got the feeling it must be done with a ereg() like function. but I can't find out how..

$price = preg_replace("/(~)(.*)(\r)/",$1);

this should work .... i think ?

OK, I looked up preg_replace() and can imagine that the price variable (in your axample0 wil be filled with the cutted content.

But what if I got more line with the same deviders?
like;

var1~value1\r
var2~value2\r
etc.

It would be logical to me to fill an array with the cutted content, could you give a handout how to aproche this

Hi,

Im trying to figure out preg_match. I need to get the found part and the left over part:

$check = "text001"

preg_match("/text/", $check, $huh);

	echo $huh[0]."<br>";
	echo $huh[1]."<br>";

prints:

text

Where did my "001" go? Shouldn't it be in $huh[1]?
