link using #

I want to link to a page, but halfway down the page.

In straight html something like

<a href = "pagename.php#place_on_page ..... etc

should work; but I find the # upsets the whole thing. The #place_on_page ends up after the session id and I don't link to were I want to go on the page.

Any ideas anyone?

Well I did - before posting the messge - and it does not work - also tried combinations with " and \".

Strange

Did you actually try # --- seems obvious - but as far as I can see it does notwork.
